AnnMarie LeBlanc, M.F.A.
Dean - School of Communications and Information Systems, Professor of Media Arts
AnnMarie holds a master of fine arts from Bowling Green State University, a master of arts from Purdue University and a bachelor of fine arts from Louisiana State University.
She began working in digital imaging in the mid-1980’s, at the very birth of the medium. Thematically, her work centers on studies of botanical life as an intimate part of humanity’s lore, medicine and spirituality. These images celebrate richly diverse cultures and the knowledge of indigenous plants that have been woven into traditions passed from generation to generation. Her work has been included in more than 50 national and international adjudicated exhibitions and a dozen solo or two-person exhibitions. She also has images in more than 300 private and corporate collections around the United States and abroad.
Prior to coming to RMU, she served as Interim Dean of the College of Communication and Information and Director of the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. During her 29-year history in higher education she was also a faculty member on the campus of Indiana University – Purdue University where she served as Associate Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and as chairperson of Visual Communication and Design. In addition, she has taught on the campuses of University of Michigan and University of Massachusetts and have instructed in subjects as varied as graphic design, digital imaging, printmaking, interaction design, typography, and color theory.
